St. Francis posts win, draw in Danville

DANVILLE, Calif. – Juniors Jaycee DeFazio and Brooke Castro each scored goals in a 2-0 win over Clayton Valley at Sycamore Valley Park, then senior Kate Killer scored the team's lone goal in a 1-1 tie at Monte Vista, highlighting St. Francis varsity soccer action at the Tri-Valley Classic Friday.

The Troubadours improve to 7-1-2 for the season.

DeFazio put SFHS on the board in the first half against Clayton Valley, taking an assist from Caroline Murdoch. Then Castro added the insurance goal in the second half, converting a free kick from Malia McGrail. Rory Peters and Isabella De La Cruz combined for the shutout, with Peters collecting three saves in her 40 minutes in front of the cage.

DeFazio now has six goals with six assists for 18 total points this year, matching Micaela Romo for the team lead.

The Troubies fell into a 1-0 hole in the nightcap with the Mustangs before Killer sent in a long goal from beyond the penalty box in the 46th minute. That marks the first goal of the 2021-22 season for the UC Santa Barbara-bound midfielder. De la Cruz tallied three saves in her work minding the net.

St. Francis wraps up action at the Tri-Valley Classic against Maria Carrillo on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. This game will take place at Sycamore Valley Park's No. 3 field.
