Troubies draw No. 3 seed in CIF-SJS soccer bracket

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis High School has drawn the No. 3 seed and will host No. 14-seeded Monterey Trail in the first round of the 2022 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I girls' soccer bracket, the section office announced Tuesday. The game will take place at Cristo Rey High School on Friday at 6 p.m.

The Troubadours, who captured their second consecutive Delta League title, enter the postseason with a 14-4-3 overall record. The Mustangs went 16-6-3 and finished third in the Metro Conference. St. Francis owns 14 all-time SJS crowns and five runner-up finishes, with a title in 2020 and a second-place showing in 2019 (which later culminated in the NorCal region championship). Junior Micaela Romo (17), junior Jaycee DeFazio (14) and senior Mika Shinoda (12) each have surpassed double figures in the goals column, with DeFazio leading the team with nine assists.

Senior striker Tiana Johnson leads Monterey Trail in the scoring column with 49 goals, including eight hat tricks and five-goal performances against Tokay (Dec. 22) and Sheldon (Jan. 28). The Eagles were previously members of the Delta League with St. Francis until moving to the Metro in 2018.
