Troubies blank Wolfpack twice in road doubleheader
ELK GROVE, Calif. - Senior forward Sofia Flores and junior midfielder Micaela Romo each scored goals in a 2-0 varsity win after the Troubadours JV Gold team claimed a 3-0 victory as St. Francis swept Cosumnes Oaks in a Delta League girls' soccer doubleheader Thursday night.

The Troubie varsity squad remains unbeaten at 2-0-1, with a 1-0-1 mark in league play. The JV Gold stays undefeated with its sixth straight win.

Flores collected a cross from Jaycee DiFazio in the 21st minute, while Romo dribbled in on her own in the 78th to account for the varsity offense. Audrey Shackleford and Kate Killer also applied pressure on the CO cage with a pair of shots. Senior goalkeeper Rory Peters stopped both Wolfpack shots on frame in preserving the shutout.

Preceding the varsity win, Piper Sherburne, Mia Barsotti and Estella Bacsafra netted one goal apiece while Becca Weil recorded an assist in the 3-0 opener. The JV Gold has now outscored opponents by a whopping 26-3 margin in its 6-0 start.

The SFHS varsity now heads to Rocklin for a tournament hosted jointly by Rocklin High and Whitney High. The elder Troubies will face Placer (1:30 p.m.) and Antelope (6 p.m.) as part of the two-day, four-game weekend slate.

Meanwhile, JV Gold joins JV Red at the Inderkum High Tournament, held at both IHS and neighboring Natomas High: Gold against a varsity field, Red versus JV and frosh-soph foes. The St. Francis Gold squares off with Natomas for Friday's 8 a.m. opener, then meets up with Grant at 2 p.m. Both of these games take place at Inderkum. The Troubie Red team opens with the Inderkum frosh-soph crew at 10:30 a.m. then takes on Chico at 4:45 p.m. Friday afternoon.
