Troubies pull away from Wolfpack in Delta League win
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior forward Jaycee DeFazio scored two goals while senior midfielder Mika Shinoda provided the assists on each, leading St. Francis varsity to a 4-2 win over Cosumnes Oaks in a Delta League girls' soccer tilt at Cristo Rey High School Tuesday night.

The Troubadours pick up their 10th win of the year, improving to 10-3-2 overall and 4-1-0 in Delta League contests.

Brooke Castro and Micaela Romo also netted goals for St Francis, which exploded from a 1-1 halftime tie to capture the victory. Castro scored on a header of a Audrey Shackelford header in the 21st minute, but the Wolfpack equalized in the final minutes before the intermission.

However, DeFazio scored back-to-back goals early in the second half. Her first came from Shinoda by way of Castro in the 53rd minute, while her second came directly from Shinoda five minutes later, boosting the Troubie lead to 3-1. CO cut the margin to 3-2 in the 68th before Romo added the insurance goal on a free kick with three minutes remaining in regulation.

Romo leads St. Francis in scoring this season with 13 goals, while DeFazio now has eight goals and six assists for 22 total points. Castro picked up both her first goal and first assist of the year.

Earlier on Tuesday back on the St. Francis campus, the JV Red shut out visiting Inderkum by a 4-0 final. Freshman Abby Clark and sophomore Alyssa Cheah each scored two goals in the win, while goalkeeper Maggie Buffleben protected the cage with five saves. Cheah hit both of hers on set pieces – one on a  free kick from just beyond the penalty area and the second after Giuliana Del Guerra was fouled hard inside the eighteen. Clark posted her brace thanks to assists from Jada Dwyre and Gwyneth O'Brien.

The Troubies' JV Gold followed its varsity counterparts with a 3-0 win over CO thanks to goals from Mia Barsotti, Becca Weil and Estella Bacsafra.

The SFHS varsity soccer team returns to action at Sheldon on Thursday for continued Delta League action. The JV Red will host Rio Americano on its campus field that same afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The JV Gold now has a nine-day bye, with Sheldon having canceled the remainder of its JV season, and will next play at home against Elk Grove on January 27.
