Softball Defeats Franklin 8-4

ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis softball team posted an 8-4 comeback win over Franklin on Wednesday to take over third place in the Delta League standing heading into the final week of regular season play.

Senior Chloe Smith homered for the fourth time this season in the third inning to cut into an early 2-0 deficit. She added a run-scoring single in the fifth to tie the game at 2.

The Troubadours (12-6, 6-3) broke open the game four-run top of the sixth. After two walks to the start the inning, Bella Valentine put SF ahead with a single and Danni Guerrera and Sydney Littles followed with RBIs. Sophomore Sage Davis plated the fourth run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.

The Wildats rallied for two in the bottom of the inning but the Troubies pushed the lead back to four with two runs in the seventh.

Freshman Hope Jenkins won her eighth game of the season. After allowing two first-inning runs, she settled to hold the Wildcats scoreless over the next four innings. She finished with four runs allowed o six hits and four walks with four strikeouts.

Smith and Littles both had three hits in the game, while Valentine had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI.

St. Francis play in the NorCal Classic on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Tracy.
