Water polo celebrates 2021 season with awards banquet

Juniors Gauri Mathrakott and Ava Stimson were announced as All-Sac-Joaquin Section second-team recipients, while Mathrakott and freshman Sophia Santsche-Chavez earned Player of the Year honors for the varsity and junior varsity teams, respectively, as St. Francis girls' water polo held its annual year-end awards banquet at the school's dining hall Wednesday night.

Head coach Marisa Kolokotronis served as the event emcee, presenting the following team awards for the 2021 season:

Varsity Player of the Year: Gauri Mathrakott
Varsity Defensive Player of the Year: Emily Sherrod
Varsity Offensive Player of the Year: Ava Stimson
Most Improved Varsity Player: Rachael Madden
Most Inspirational Varsity Player: Emma Houle

Head JV coach Rocky Mudd bestowed these nods to her top performers:

JV Player of the Year: Sophia Santsche-Chavez
JV Defensive Player of the Year: Lydia Vlahos
JV Offensive Player of the Year: Ashlyn Brock
Most Improved JV Player: Addison Hutchcraft
Most Inspirational JV Player: Maren Foster

Additionally, five Troubadour players were recognized as All-Delta League honorees: Mathrakott, Stimson, Baya McIntosh, Emma Kropf and Rory Peters. Junior Teaghan Brostrom earned the coaching staff's selection for the Delta League Sportsmanship Award. Finally, SFHS athletic director Mark McGreevy recognized one additional honor during the season: Kolokotronis garnered Delta League Coach of the Year distinction in her first season at the varsity helm.
