Water Polo Defeats Granite Bay in Home Opener

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Kendall Houck scored four times in a 8-4 victory over Granite Bay in the home opener at Jesuit High School. St. Francis improved to 7-3 on the season.

"It was a fun, exciting win," said Houck. "It was good to have us all build and work together and go for the shots."

It was the first home game of the season for the team after playing in two tournaments and on the road at St. Mary's over the first month of the season.

"Home games are always best because you have all the fun and support," said Houck.

The Troubadours jumped out to a 6-0 lead with three goals each in the first two quarters. The Grizzlies rallied for four goals in the second half after the game was in hand for the Troubies.

Houck scored four times and junior Libby Slater added two goals with single scores from Caroline Wilkins and Emma Johnson.

"St. Francis plays challenging games against Clovis and St. Francis Mountain View in neutral pool contests at Rio Americano on Saturday at Noon and 2 p.m. respectively.

"We are expecting to get better because they are challenging teams," said Houck. "We have to work as a team and build from them."
