Serving game leads sweep of Elk Grove

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Seniors Veronica Datwyler, Kelsey Magley and Jacqueline Smith combined for 19 service aces as St. Francis gathered a 25-12, 25-15, 25-19 sweep of Elk Grove in Delta League girls' varsity volleyball action Thursday night.

Overall, the nightcap finished a dominating overall tripleheader for the Troubadours: the frosh swept the Thundering Herd by scores of 25-6, 25-2; then the junior varsity followed with a similar 25-6, 25-3 win. SF varsity improves to 22-8 overall and 9-1 in Delta League play, while JV (29-1) and frosh (24-1) remain unbeaten in league matches.

Datwyler led all players with nine aces, Magley added six and Smith chipped in another four points from the service line in the varsity finale. The Troubies needed just 27 kills to complete the win, with seniors Lana Ezeani (7) and Lily Zeff (6) leading the offensive charge.

Magley completed a solid all-around match, hitting 5-1-10 (.400) with nine digs to go with her serving game and 14 assists at setter. Smith was the lone Troubie with double-figure defense at 11 digs.

St. Francis has two more home Delta League matches on its regular-season schedule. However, all three Troubie volleyball teams will host future SF students in Saturday's Parochial Athletic League tournament, which features teams from eight middle schools under the auspices of the Diocese of Sacramento.
