Troubies drop rematch of 2022 section final

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – Senior opposite Caroline Foraker had a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs while supplying five of her team's six blocks, but St. Francis lost in four sets to Oak Ridge in a rematch of last year's Sac-Joaquin Section girls' volleyball championship match by scores of 26-24, 20-25, 25-22, 26-24 Thursday night.

The Troubadours even their season record to 3-3 heading into Saturday's Holy Court rivalry match with Christian Brothers.

Meanwhile, the two younger St. Francis squads came up victorious in split sets against their Trojan hosts. The Troubie frosh opened the night with a 26-24, 20-25, 15-12 win, then the JV followed with a 30-28, 21-25, 15-5 triumph. Both SF sub-varsity teams are now 2-0 for the year.

Foraker led the varsity in both kills and blocks, while senior middle blocker Lily Zeff knocked down 13 kills against just five errors for a .333 average. Senior libero Jacqueline Smith paced SF in both digs (24) and aces (4), and setter Kelsey Magley finished with 37 assists and another 16 digs.

Another bright spot was the play of junior Sophia Van Ness, a transfer from Southern California power Oaks Christian. After sitting out the Folsom Bulldog Bash and seeing scant reps at Rocklin on Thursday, Van Ness hit 7-3-22 on offense to go with 11 digs on floor defense.

St. Francis enjoyed its most efficient hitting in the second-set win, committing just four attacking errors en route to a .258 clip. However, the Troubies struggled to just 10-9-36 in the third for a .028 success rate.

The Troubadours host Christian Brothers for the much-awaited Holy Court rivalry match on Saturday. The frosh teams square off at 1:30, the JV at 2:30, with varsity finishing the afternoon with a 4 p.m. start. Tickets for the match sold out earlier in the week, but streaming video will be available at the NFHS Network (https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/st-francis-catholic-high-school-sacramento-ca).
