Road sweep keeps SF volleyball unbeaten in league

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Freshman outside hitter Hailey Sutton hit a career-best 12 kills en route to a .611 average, while senior middle blocker Lily Zeff added 10-2-17 hitting and three blocks, leading St. Francis to a 25-18, 25-16, 25-12 sweep of Cosumnes Oaks in Delta League girls' volleyball action Tuesday night.

The Troubadour varsity improves to 17-5 for the season and remains undefeated in league play at 6-0.

Sutton committed only one error in 18 swings toward her team-best clip. The marked the first double-figure offensive night for the team's lone freshman. Her previous high was seven kills, set in four sets against McClatchy back on August 29.

In addition to Sutton and Zeff, the latter of whom also had three blocks for the night, junior Gabrielle Rowe provided another seven kills on 17 swings. Senior libero Jacqueline Smith led the floor defense with 16 digs. Overall, SF hit .292 behind the setting of senior Kelsey Magley, who also had eight digs for the night.

St. Francis' frosh and junior varsity also won their respective matches in straight sets prior to the varsity nightcap. The Troubie frosh made quick work of the Wolf Pack with a 25-7, 25-8 victory; then the jayvees won, 25-14, 25-17, in the lead-in to the varsity match.

The Troubie JV improves to 16-1 for the year, while frosh remains unbeaten at 15-0. In fact, the SF freshies have only lost three sets, with none of those setbacks coming in league play.

St. Francis volleyball continues Delta League action on Thursday at Franklin. Match times are the usual 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. starts.
