Mykaela Le led a 1-2-3-4-5 perfect finish in the Div. III JV race at Saturday's sub-section championships.

ANGELS CAMP, Calif. – Freshman Ava Tompkins and junior Mykaela Le led dominating team performances in the Division III frosh-soph and junior varsity races, respectively, while Sunny Schranz, Grace Dunham and Ryann Strawn crossed the finish line together as the top varsity scorers, highlighting St. Francis at the Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section cross country championship meet at Calaveras County Fairgrounds Saturday.

Overall, the Troubadours finished first in the frosh-soph and JV team standings, and second in the varsity event, securing their appearance at the SJS section meet next Saturday in Folsom.

Le, Ashlyn Smith, Chloe' Hickey, Lucie Pickering Pick and Ashley Sexauer posted a perfect 1-2-3-4-5 finish in the JV race for the optimal 15 points, easily besting the nine-team field. Zoe Smith and Olivia Charles followed in ninth and 12th as displacing finishers. In fact, the Troubies' JV win was so decisive that their first non-scoring finisher – Chloe Rhodes-Nguyen in 14th – still entered the chute ahead of the No. 2 runners on third-place Ripon or fourth-place Christian Brothers.

Tompkins went 13:51.1 to win the frosh-soph event, more than 11 seconds ahead of teammate Mia Hollar (14:02.1). Lucia Hash crossed in fourth, with Kalaya Moore and Chloe Harrison respectively in 12th and 16th to round out the Troubies' 24 team points. Jamisen Black (23rd) and MacKenzie Olmstead (29th) posted the displacing scores.

In the varsity finale, Schranz (20:02.1), Dunham (20:02.2) and Strawn (20:02.2) stuck together in 12th through 14th place, leading St. Francis' second-place team score of 96, one ahead of Del Oro (97) and just 14 behind Placer (82). The top 10 teams move on to sections from the varsity event, allowing must runners to race at a tempo pace. Pamela Vargas (35th), Emma Dobson (40th), Amelia Bell (41st) and Kayla Towne (48th) formed the rest of the Troubie varsity squad in the field of 18 teams and 161 finishers.

The 25 individuals in the varsity race and top 20 in the frosh-soph and JV events earned medals for their performances.

St. Francis returns to the Willow Hill Reservoir for the SJS section championships on November 11. The D-III races take place at 9:20 a.m. (frosh-soph), 10:00 a.m. (varsity) and 1:02 p.m. (JV)
