Dunham, varsity wins Lagoon Valley Classic

VACAVILLE, Calif. – Senior Grace Dunham bested a field of 14 teams and 105 total runners with a time of 18 minutes, 57.3 seconds, winning the small school varsity girls' 3-mile race and leading St. Francis to the team title at the Lagoon Valley Classic cross country meet, held at Lagoon Valley Park Saturday morning.

Dunham was one of five Troubadours among the top 12, with freshman Sunny Schranz crossing in third (19:08.4), senior Ryann Strawn in seventh (20:01.0), senior Emma Dobson in ninth (20:25.0) and senior Kelsey Sutch in 12th (20:50.9). Elizabeth Gibbons and Pamela Vargas displaced in 18th and 21st overall, helping SF score 29 team points – well ahead of runner-up Christian Brothers (80) and third-place Willow Glen (94).

In addition to the varsity team win, the St. Francis frosh-soph finished fourth among 12 teams while the junior varsity crew placed second in the six-team meet finale despite fielding the minimum five runners for a team score.

Sophomores Jordan Brace (18th) and Lucia Hash (20th) led the Troubie frosh-soph, with Jamisen Black and Morgane Bertran crossing together in 31st and 32nd, respectively. Kalaya Moore shut the door in 42nd, giving SF a 102 team total. In the JV event, Lucie Pickering Pick led her team for the second straight weekend with a third-place performance among 79 total finishers. Chloe' Hickey was close behind in fifth, with Chloe Rhodes-Nguyen coming through the final chute in 10th. Olivia Charles (18th) and Adeline McKrell (68th) completed the SF jayvees, which totaled 51 points to winner Davis (37).

The top three teams and top 40 individuals in each race earned medals from the meet, hosted by Vacaville High. The Lagoon Valley Classic course takes place among the hills of the Peña Adobe Historical Area, with two of the hills known to runners as "Big Mama" and "Little Sister."

St. Francis takes a weekend off from competition, then returns to action at the 42nd Woodbridge Cross Country Classic, held at Orange County Great Park in Irvine. The Troubies will take part in the Saturday, Sept. 16 portion of the meet.
