IRVINE, Calif. – Senior Grace Dunham placed 18th among 223 finishers to lead St. Francis to a ninth-place team total of 326 points in the Rated Varsity girls' 3-mile race at the 42nd installment of the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic at Orange County Great Park Saturday.
Dunham crossed the finish line in 17 minutes, 38.9 seconds to lead the Troubadours. Sunny Schranz (61st), Ryann Strawn (64th), Kayla Towne (90th) and Emma Dobson (121st) also contributed to the team scoring, with Pamela Vargas (145th) and Elizabeth Gibbons (160th) displacing.
The Woodbridge meet is a two-day event with teams from around the country, divided into six tiers: White, Red, Blue, Gold, Rated and Sweepstakes. St. Francis also fielded a junior varsity team in the Gold Junior-Senior Girls, plus a crew in the Gold Soph race. Finally, five Troubies entered the Blue/Golf Novice event to start off their team's Saturday action.
Sophomore Olivia Charles led SF in the Blue/Gold Novice in 14th at 22:35.7, with the team placing 30th of the 41-team field. In the Gold Sophomore event, Mia Hollar (7th) and Jordan Brace (17th) placed among the top 20 in the 129-finisher field, helping St. Francis to a close fourth place in the team standings. The Troubies scored 91, closely behind Edison and Grossmont, which took second and third with identical 85-point totals.
In the Gold Junior-Senior race, Mykaela Le and Amelia Bell finished one after another in 45th and 46th, respectively. The Troubies totaled 184 points, good for seventh among the 19 teams.
St. Francis returns to action in 11 days for its only "home" meet: the Delta League Center Meet, co-hosted with Jesuit and held at Cherry Island Sports Complex on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
