Cross country performs strong at HOKA two-mile meet

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – Freshman Sunny Schranz and senior Pamela Vargas won their respective sections, while senior Grace Dunham took fourth among 120 finishers from all five races, as St. Francis wrapped up the regular season at the Cordova High site of the HOKA Postal National Two-Mile meet.

The HOKA meet takes place at various sites throughout the season, with all runners competing in a two-mile race on the track. The times are then combined and scored like a cross country meet to determine rankings and winners. Saturday's meet featured five girls' races, with Dunham among three Troubies in the fifth and fastest section.

The UC Davis-bound Dunham crossed the finish line in 11 minutes, 42.10 seconds to finish fourth in her 12-person race. Ryann Strawn took seventh in the heat, ninth overall at 11:59.10; while Emma Dobson was the third St. Francis runner in the race. She came through in 13th at 12:34.21.

Schranz won the fourth section at 11:52.68, while Vargas went 12:28.59 to dominate the third race. Jordan Brace (13:11.15) and Mykaela Le (13:23.27) followed Vargas in third and fourth, respectively. St. Francis also had two runners in the top four of the opening race, with Olivia Charles placing third (14:11.23) with Lucy Loverich more than 30 seconds behind in fourth (14:42.97).

When all sections are combined, the top SF scorers by overall place were Dunham (4th), Schranz (6th), Strawn (9th), Vargas (16th) and Dobson (18th), with Mia Hollar (24th, 12:49.68) and Brace (34th) displacing. The overall rankings are available at the HOKA Hub: https://www.hokaoneonepostalnationals.com/.

Saturday's meet serves as the finale for the Troubies' regular season. They have one week off before competing in the Delta League Championship (Oct. 28), followed by the Sac-Joaquin Sub-Section meet on Nov. 4.
