Yadao bests sizable field at Oakmont

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – St. Francis senior Sinclair Yadao compiled a season-best total of 242.85 to outduel friend, Christian Brothers rival and fellow Sacred Heart University commit Phifey Boyers' 231.85 at the top of an 18-entrant field in diving action at Oakmont High Wednesday.

The meet consisted of divers from throughout the Sacramento area, although mostly from the Roseville schools. All entrants competed in a six-dive program, more similar to a dual meet.

Junior Maya Hamilton finished sixth with a 174.40 score while freshman Lily Frei made her Troubadour debut with a 134.10 total. Hamilton's score narrowly missed her personal best of 174.80, set in last year's April 12 dual with CB.

Yadao got into the groove with a 7.5-bingo awards on her back dive pike (201B) for a 36.0 in the opening round. She earned 7s from the panel on a 403B, or inward 1.5 somersault pike, on her third dive for a 50.4 bump. Yadao closed out her meet with 7.5-7.0-7.5 awards on a forward 1.5 twist free (5132D) for a 48.40 to clinch the meet win.

Hamilton enjoyed her biggest scoring push in the second round, picking up 33.0 points in a 203C, or back 1.5 somersault tuck; while also closing out on a high note with another 30.4 on a 301C reverse dive tuck. Frei, already an accomplished gymnast, began diving this season SF and saw her first meet action at Oakmont. Like her SF teammates, she finished with her best dive, getting 28.05 points on a 5221D, or back somersault 1/2 twist free.

The Troubadour divers return to action in a week, hosting Elk Grove in a Delta League dual at American River College on March 27.
