ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team placed second at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I Tournament on Monday held at Elkhorn Golf Club, earning a berth on the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters.
"We played a pretty hard course today," said senior Olivia Alcoran. "It looks pretty flat but there are some hard greens and they are pretty best. We tried our best but in the end we are all together."
The Troubadours shot a 447 team score to finish behind only Granite Bay (389) in the nine-team field. The top six teams advanced to the second week of postseason play at The Reserve at Spanos Park including Rocklin, Whitney, Pleasant Grove and Lincoln.
Senior Patricia Sweeney led the team with an 85 with a round that included an eagle on the par-5 10th hole.
"I was over the place today," said Sweeney. "I had four doubles and I had four eagles and birdies. I was not consistent about anything today. Hopefully it will be better next week."
Alcoran posted the second-best round with an 86 followed by Nashla Aguero with an 88. The Troubadours also counted a 92 by Hannya Niazi and a 96 by Ceci Fletcher.
The second-place finish was the best for the team since last winning the first round event in 2013.
