ANGELS CAMP, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team will defend their Sac-Joaquin Section Division II title next week after winning the Subsection meet Saturday with 32 team points to easily out-score second place Whitney.
St. Francis placed their top five in top 10 within five seconds of each other led by junior Isabella Fauria in fourth overall in 19:28.6. Junior Haley Silva was fifth in 19:28.75 and freshman Cate Joaquin crossed sixth in 19:28.76. The Troubies sandwiched a Rio American runner with the second group of Sophie DeBenedetti finishing eighth in 19:31.3 and freshman Tatiana Cornejo ninth overall in 19:33.9.
Freshman Emily Castles was 29th overall in 20:21 with sophomore Hanna Hekkanen the seventh runner across for the Troubies in 20:56.
In the Junior Varsity race featuring Division I and Ii teams, St. Francis was edged by Davis 29-32 despite the best efforts of second-place finisher junior Grace Rogers in 20:46. Junior Audrey Reyes was fourth overall in 21:03 just ahead of teammate Grace Harrison in 21:07 in seventh. Senior Marie Pahos was eighth in 21:14 and senior Morgan Watson was 11th in 21:38. Senior Cassidy Lourim recorded a top-15 finish (13th, 21:42) and junior Nicole McBride was 17th overall (22:06).
In the Frosh/Soph race, St. Francis freshman Claire Silva won the individual title in 13:20 to lead the team to a second-place finish. Peyton Carson was 12th overall (13:56) followed by McKenna McKrell (13th, 14:00) and Nora Smith (14th, 14:04). Anna Karlshowj placed 16th overall.
St. Francis advances to the section championships next weekend. The Frosh/Soph race will take place at 9:20 a.m. followed by the varsity at 11:30 a.m. and JV girls at 12:02.
