Volleyball Clinches Delta League Title with Senior Night Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team opened the night with a celebration of their five seniors and then capped off the evening with a Delta League Championship after a 3-0 win over Cosumnes Oaks 25-15, 25-11, 25-18.

"It feels really good," said Chappuie of clinching the title. "It is our first goal in our long set plan to be really successful. It is really exciting."

The Troubadours (31-2, 11-0) clinched their third straight Delta League title and 23rd in school history. It was the 40th consecutive league win and completed a third consecutive undefeated season. The last loss came on Oct. 17, 2016 against Elk Grove.

Senior Alexa Edwards appropriately led the team with a 19 kill, 20 dig night while hitting .350. She joined classmates Chappuie, Jesireee Moral and Suzanne Salazar in a pregame Monopoly-themed ceremony. Money Cook was sick and unable to attend.

"It is crazy to think four years have gone by," said Chappuie. "It seems like a long time until it is not. I am really proud of everyone and all my teammates for putting the ceremony together. It made me so sad but really happy."

Junior Ashley Magley had 11 kills and junior Chloe Henning added eight to help pace the offense, hitting .305 as a team. Moral, Ellie Eichhorn and Lauren Patella each served 10 or more points for the team that totaled seven aces in the contest.

St. Francis never trailed in all three sets. They jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first as Patella served five straight points and never looked back against the Wolfpack, the second-best team in the league with a 9-1 record entering the night.

St. Francis (31-2) closes out the regular season at Franklin on Tuesday night next week.
