Volleyball Team Banquet Celebrates 2019 Season

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball program celebrated their 2019 campaign at the annual team banquet at the school's Dining Hall.

2019 Volleyball Highlights

  • St. Francis (36-3) advanced to the CIF Northern California Regional Open Division quarterfinals and hosted a first-round game for the first time in school history before losing Bishop O'Dowd.
  • The Troubadours ranked the No. 1 team in the Sacramento Bee after taking over the top spot after a week one win over Rocklin. They finished No. 14 in the final CalHiSports.com state Rankings and No. 27 by MaxPreps. The Troubies were also No. 5 in the final FitPro Go! NorCal Ranking.
  • St. Francis won the 2019 Sac-Joaquin Division I Section title over Oak Ridge 3-0 after reaching the Sac-Joaquin Section finals for the third consecutive season. The Troubies were the No. 1 seed and defeated Enochs (3-0), Turlock (3-1) and Cosumnes Oaks (3-1) in the first three rounds.
  • The team was chosen the Les Schwab Tires Sac-Joaquin Section Team of the Month for October. The Troubadours were chosen based on a combination of performance, dedication in the classroom and service to the community.
  • St. Francis won the Central California Classic and Chris Craft Invitational titles and placed sixth at the Stockton Classic.
  • Delta League Coach of the Year Alynn Wright led the Troubadours to the league title for the 23rd time in her career as St. Francis went 12-0.
  • Senior Alexa Edwards was named the Sacramento Bee's All-Metro Player of the Year in the November 27 edition of the newspaper, joining teammates Ellie EichhornChloe Henning, Ashely Magley and Jesiree Moral in earning All-Metro honors.
  • Edwards was named the Delta League Player of the Year for the third consecutive season. She ranked fifth in the state of California in kills with 464 while leading the Delta League
  • Four players earned All-League honors in 2019 as voted by the league coaches including junior middle blocker Chloe Henning, setter Ellie Eichhorn and right side Ashley Magley. Edwards led the league in kills and kills per set, while ranking second in digs. Henning led the league in hitting percentage and was sixth in kills. Eichhorn was third in assists and assists per set. Magley ranked sixth in the league in kills.
  • Head Coach Alynn Wright also was the named the Coach of the Year, the 19th Coach of the Year selection in her career and second consecutive.
  • Wright was honored at the Optimist All-Star game with selection into the Optimist Hall of Fame by the Evening Optimist Club of Sacramento. She was a co-coach for the Large Schools South Team that featured Troubadours Alexa EdwardsLara Chappuie and Jes Moral. The North team won in four sets and Edwards was named the team's Most Valuable Player.
  • Edwards signed with the University of Pacific, while Moral will continue her career at Fresno Pacific.
  • St. Francis defeated Christian Brothers in front of a sold out crowd in the annual Holy Court matchup.
  • The junior varsity team went undefeated (29-1) and won two tournament titles (Stockton Invitational and Carmichael TOC) during the season, as well as defeating Christian Brothers in Holy Court.
  • The freshman team posted a 25-2 record, including a 12-0 mark in Delta League play. The Troubies won the Carmichael Invitational TOC and defeated Christian Brothers in Holy Court.
