SF continues undefeated streak with shutout at Sheldon

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Junior Giuliana Del Guerra scored the game's first goal then assisted scores by Tacori Abril and Cami Zucker to lead St. Francis to a 5-0 shutout of Sheldon in the varsity opener of a Delta League girls' soccer doubleheader Friday night. Elizabeth Barger and Abby Clark also scored goals in the win.

The Troubadours have now won or tied 12 straight games to improve to 15-3-2 overall and 8-1-1 in league play.

Del Guerra, who had 23 goals and nine assists in her two previous seasons with SF's JV Gold and JV Red squads, had entered Friday's contest with four total points. She put the Troubies on the board just 17 seconds in. Junior Sofia Rabinovitz assisted Del Guerra's goal then set up Barger in the eighth minute to double the lead.

Del Guerra then posted the dimes for Abril in the 19th minute, and Zucker in the 29th. St. Francis led 4-0 at halftime, but tacked on one more goal in the second to allow junior Abby Clark to score her first varsity goal. Senior Mia Barsotti played a corner kick to Clark, who headed in finish with about six minutes left in the game.

Clark was among JV Red's top scorers with eight goals as a freshman in 2021-22 and had another in relatively limited action with the frosh-soph team last season. She made the rare leap from JV Red to varsity this season, playing reserve minutes in nine games heading into Friday's doubleheader.

JV Gold followed varsity with a 9-0 shutout against the Huskes, with freshman Norah White posting a hat trick and an assist for seven total points. This raises her season totals to 12 goals and eight assists. Ryleigh Czerniec added two more goals, with Penelope Cole, Madeline Squaglia, Angelina Chavez and Mia Nelson each chipping in another. Freshman midfielder Lily Hall had two assists. JV Gold improves to 15-1-2 overall and 6-1-2 in league play.

Meanwhile, JV Red hosted West Park on Friday, battling the Panthers to a 3-3 draw. Coverage of this game can be found separately, also at GoTroubies.com.

All three SF soccer programs return to action for Saturday's "Holy Cup" rivalry contest against Christian Brothers. JV Red will lead off the day with a 10 a.m. game against River City, as CB does not have a frosh nor frosh-soph team. JV Gold will follow at noon, then varsity finishes the overall tripleheader by taking on the Falcons at 2 p.m. All three games take place at Cristo Rey's Adamson Family Sports Complex.
