SF soccer pulls away to 3-1 road win at PG

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Senior Caitlin Hafenstein posted a goal and assist for three total points while Sofia Rabinovitz and Cami Zucker combined for a go-ahead score in the 49th minute, leading St. Francis to a 3-1 win over Pleasant Grove in the varsity opener of a Delta League girls' soccer doubleheader Wednesday night.

The Troubadours improve to 12-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 in league play, extending their undefeated streak to nine straight.

Junior Jada Dwyre put SF on the board in the 15th on a header from Hafenstein, and SF held that lead until surrendering a penalty kick in the 28th. Then eight minutes, 55 seconds into the second half, Rabinovitz set up Zucker for a goal to put the Troubies back on top.

Hafenstein then made it 3-1 thanks to a well-placed corner kick from fellow senior Mia Barsotti. Hafenstein raises her season totals to eight goals and 20 points, trailing only senior Yasmin Azar for the team lead in each category. Dwyre's goal was her sixth on the year, while Zucker landed her second.

JV Gold continued its undefeated (14-0-2) season with a 3-0 shutout of the Eagles in Wednesday's nightcap. Norah White scored two goals, both on Holland Sperber assists, while Nassali Serwanga assisted Madeline Squaglia. White and Squaglia hit their respective goals in the third and fifth minutes, then White finished her brace midway through the second half.

This marks the fifth straight shutout for JV Gold, a span that features 28 unanswered goals.

St. Francis returns home to host Delta League leader and defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division I champion Franklin on Friday. Game times are 4 p.m. (varsity) and 6 p.m. (JV) at Cristo Rey High's Adamson Family Sports Complex.
