SF soccer sweeps Saturday showcase in Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. – Sophomore Miley Blough finished with a goal and two assists as St. Francis won both of its games at the Delta Showcase varsity girls' soccer mini-tournament at San Joaquin Delta College Saturday. The Troubadours dispatched Turlock, 5-1, in the day's opening tilt; then swept host Oakdale by a 3-0 final in the nightcap.

St. Francis moves to 7-3 for the year.

Jada Dwyre and Sofia Rabinovitz each recorded a goal and assist in the opener against the Bulldogs. In fact, they assisted each other: Rabinovitz set up Dwyre for the first goal of the contest, then Dwyre returned the favor by delivering a long throw-in for Rabinovitz to tap into the goal mouth.

Blough had both assists in the morning matchup with Turlock, furnishing goals by Tacori Abril and Giada Pagano. Mia Barsotti added a penalty kick late the contest to make it the 5-1 final.

In the nightcap, Elizabeth Barger buried a goal in the 20th minute to boost SF to a 1-0 halftime lead over Oakdale. Giuliana Del Guerra then had the finish on a cross from Estella Bacsafra in the 44th. Finally, Blough converted a pass from Yasmin Azar in the 53rd to extend the lead to 3-0. The Troubies held the Mustangs to just a single shot on goal, with Maggie Buffleben coming up with the save. Buffleben started the Oakdale game, while Angelina Delaini guarded the cage to start the Turlock game, with each handing over the chores to their respective teammates at halftime.

The Delta Showcase featured four games in all, with Oakdale hosting Pleasant Grove to start the day, followed by  St. Francis vs. Turlock. The afternoon session then featured the SF-Oakdale and PG-Turlock games.

The Troubies return to action on Monday for an unusual doubleheader against Rio Americano. The varsity will take on the Raiders at Rio at 3 p.m., then JV Gold will host Rio for a 5 p.m. game at Cristo Rey. Both games were originally slated for Rio's field but the nightcap had to be relocated due to lighting issues.
