St. Francis storms past Sheldon, 7-0

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Miley Blough assisted on three goals and scored one of her own, while junior Jada Dwyre scored her first varsity brace, leading St. Francis to a 7-0 win over Sheldon in the varsity opener of a Delta League soccer doubleheader at Cristo Rey High's Adamson Family Sports Complex Friday night.

The Troubadours extend their undefeated streak to six games, improving to 10-3-1 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Blough assisted three of St. Francis' first five goals of the contest. In the ninth minute, her cross from the left side nutmegged the Husky goalkeeper and rolled to within a couple of feet of the goal line for Dwyre to tap in. Blough then fed Yasmin Azar at the top of the box in the 13th, and delivered a corner kick to Cami Zucker in the 15th.

Prior to Blough's output, senior Mia Barsotti put the Troubies on the board by converting an assist from Azar in the fifth, then setting up Dwyre's goal on the right side of the box in the eighth. Barger played a ball up to Sofia Rabinovitz for a goal in the 20th to extend the margin to 6-0.
St. Francis largely opted to stop shooting for the remaining 60 minutes, although Blough accidentally posted her lone goal in the 48th. A ball played into the mixer found its way past the Sheldon defense and into the net for the game's seventh score.

The Troubie JV Gold followed the varsity shutout with a 10-0 victory of its own to remain undefeated at 11-0-2 for the year. Nassali Serwanga and Ryleigh Czerniec each scored two while Lily Hall and Norah White each logged two assists. White also scored a goal for four total points, with Penelope Cole and Madeline Squaglia adding 1-1-3 offensive charts.

St. Francis varsity and JV Gold return to action on Wednesday for a Delta League road visit to Elk Grove at 4 and 6 p.m., respectively. JV Red comes back as the nightcap of a home tripleheader with Davis on Friday, January 12.
