St. Francis sweeps Bella Vista in road LAX matchup

FAIR OAKS, Calif. – Sophomore attacker Karly Okamoto notched a career-high eight assists, junior Brynley Hodge netted a game-high four goals and rookie goalkeepers Havana Sperber and Hayley Labia combined for the team's second shutout of the year, as St. Francis rolled past Bella Vista, 17-0, in the varsity nightcap of a Delta League girls' lacrosse doubleheader Friday night.

The Troubadours improve to 4-3 for the year and pick up their first league win to move to 1-2. The SF junior varsity also enjoyed a dominating win, riding a 9-0 halftime lead to a 12-2 victory.

Sophomore Zia Smith added another hat trick for the Troubie varsity, and matched Hodge with four draw controls. Hodge chipped in another two assists for six total points, while Jane Tattersall had two goals and three dimes for another five points.

Also among the SF scorers were Elizabeth Barger and Brianna McGahan, who normally occupy defensive wing positions on the field. Each accounted for another two goals, while Okamoto, Louise Morr, Keira Miles and Cami Zucker had one apiece. Sperber and Labia each had two saves in the first and second halves, respectively.

Sara Ellis had two caused turnovers and Matea Avery provided three ground balls to lead SF in those two hustle stats.

In the JV opener, sophomore Zoe Smith led all scorers with four goals and an assist, while Chloe Tanner (3-1-4) and Mia Nelson (2-2-4) also totaled four points. Olivia Alvernaz contributed two more scores, and Brianna Akins had one. Goalkeeper Sofia Rainbolt saw more action than her varsity counterparts, logging seven saves against the two goals in a complete game in the crease.

St. Francis initially had Granite Bay scheduled for a doubleheader on Saturday, but canceled the date to avoid having four games in one week. Instead, the Troubies host Woodcreek on Monday, launching a 12-day, five-game homestand at Mather Sports Park. Game times are 5:30 and 7 p.m.
