Davis tops SF in battle of defending league champs

DAVIS, Calif. – Juniors Brynley Hodge and Jane Tattersall each scored two goals but St. Francis fell to Davis, 12-8, in a matchup of last year's Delta League girls' lacrosse co-champions at Ron & Mary Brown Stadium Friday night.

The Troubadours move to 2-1 for the year. The varsity loss followed a 13-4 win by the SF junior varsity, with Olivia Hamm leading the way with four goals and two assists.

Hodge also had an assist to Zia Smith and led her team with four draw controls. Abby Gillum opened the scoring on an assist from Louise Morr in the second minute of the contest, while Karly Okamoto and Keira Miles also scored. Junior Havana Sperber tallied four saves in the goalie circle for St. Francis.

After Gillum's initial score, Davis' Tori Agnew netted the first of her six goals to help the Blue Devils claim a 2-1 lead. Tattersall drove the left side to equalize at 2-2 with 13:39 left, but Davis responded with three unanswered, including two by Agnew. The Blue Devils held a 6-3 lead at the break, and pulled to as much as a seven-goal margin of 12-5 on the final Agnew tally of the night.

St. Francis scored three unanswered to finish: Okamoto's coast-to-coast push with 7:06 left, Smith's goal from Hodge just 93 seconds later, then Hodge's eight-meter conversion with 1:33 on the clock.

In Friday's opener, Hamm posted four goals and assisted on two others, while Zoe Smith and Olivia Alvernaz also enjoyed hat tricks. Sofia Rainbolt had three of her four saves in the first half to help the younger Troubies hold a 5-1 lead at the break. The SF jayvees improve to 2-0 for the year.

Both teams enjoy a rare trip outside the Sacramento area, traveling to Mountain View for a doubleheader at Saint Francis. The Lancers went 12-7 in 2022, advancing to the Central Coast Section quarterfinals.
