ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Junior Brynley Hodge scored five goals with two assists, while Karly Okamoto and Jane Tattersall each added four assists, leading St. Francis to an 18-0 shutout of Roseville in girls' varsity lacrosse action at Hanson Field Tuesday night.
The Troubadours improve to 2-0 for the year.
Hodge scored four of her five goals in the first half, then added the fifth in the fifth minute after halftime. St. Francis scored nine goals in each half, and provided opportunities for several junior varsity call-ups to score, as there was no JV opener. As a result, sophomore Zoe Smith scored back to back midway through the second half, while Olivia Alvernaz notched a goal with under two minutes remaining in the contest.
Also scoring a rare goal was junior May Conlin, normally a defender. She finished on a quick stick from an Okamoto feed with 8:15 left in the game. Another unusual stat went to junior goalkeeper Havana Sperber, who enjoyed her first shutout. Sperber did not see many Tiger offense, with St. Francis largely controlling possession in its attacking third. However, the converted water polo player did stop an attempt from Sophia Tichaner in the opening minutes of the second half.
Tattersall had three goals to go with her four assists, matching Hodge's seven points. Okamoto, Smith and Keira Miles each netted two goals as part of the offensive onslaught. Hodge and Cami Zucker logged four draw controls while combining for seven ground balls between them.
St. Francis opens Delta League play with a doubleheader at Davis on Friday. The jayvees square off at 5:30, with the Troubies and Blue Devils varsity slated for a 7 p.m. first draw.
