SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Makenna Frederiksen led 1-2-3 sweeps in two events and took part in two first-place relays while senior Megan Gawlick also earned two individual wins, leading St. Francis to wins over Franklin and Elk Grove in a Delta League swimming double dual at Jesuit High Friday.

The Troubadours open their 2023-24 season with a 2-0 record. They outscored the Wildcats by a 126-57 margin while dispatching the Thundering Herd by an even wider 134-29 edge.

Frederiksen, a Seattle University commit and one of three SF returners from last year's state championship, won the 200-yard individual medley at two minutes, 19.62 seconds. She then followed with a 1:02.31 to claim the 100-yard butterfly shortly after. Lexie DeAngelis (2:23.21) and Savannah Hamilton (2:37.92) took second and third, respectively, in the IM. Ella Ching (1:06.37) and Makayla Magri (1:12.88) completed the trifecta in the fly.

Meanwhile, Gawlick won the 200 freestyle at 2:05.74, then touched home at 5:33.97 to claim the 500 free. Senior Ashlyn Brock, who returns to the St. Francis Gold squad, also was a double winner in varsity events. The water polo standout claimed both sprint free races: 26.57 in the 50, 58.32 in the 100.

Frederiksen and Brock finished off a winning 1:57.13 in the 200 medley relay to start the meet, following Lexie DeAngelis and Ella Ching in the exchanges. Brock led off a first-place 1:48.89 in the 200 free relay, joining Gabriella McHugh, Ash Benavidez and Hamilton. Finally, Gawlick, Ching, DeAngelis and Frederiksen formed the 400 free relay at the end of the meet.

DeAngelis and Ching also posted event wins, leading the field in the 100 backstroke (1:04.88) and 10 breaststroke (1:12.15), respectively.

Among the JV swimmers, Elyse Pometta (200 free, 500 free) and Milena Bonnici (200 IM, 100 back) each won two events for St. Francis.

Adding to the final team scores were the results of the 1-meter diving, held at American River College while the swim meet was underway. Sinclair Yadao compiled a 229.45, with Paige Vicente (197.500), Maya Hamilton (151.30) and Rose Buffleben (115.95) following.

The Troubies continue their season with two meets next week. They host Pleasant Grove for another Delta League dual on Wednesday, then travel to Carondelet to face another all-girls' private Catholic school.
