SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Juniors Mia Hill and Isabelle Schmid each scored a pair of individual varsity event wins as St. Francis won every race in a dominating Delta League swimming double dual against Cosumnes Oaks and Sheldon at Jesuit High Wednesday.
The Troubadours defeated the Huskies by a 125-42 score, with a similar 126-31 victory against the Wolfpack.
Schmid won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of one minute, 59.66 seconds, then posted a winning 5:17.65 in the 500 free later in the meet. Hill prevailed in the 200 individual medley at 2:13.41, then added a second victory in the 100 free with a 55.92.
Hill also took part in the Troubies' first-place 200 medley relay (1:55.86) and 200 free relay (1:44.44). Schmid anchored that 200 free relay that Lilla Kapinya and Marissa Recio led off. Senior Makenna Frederiksen enjoyed a strong overall meet, capturing the 100 butterfly (1:02.97) and finishing second to Hill in the 200 IM (2:21.72), while swimming the third leg of each of the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay (3:52.22).
St. Francis swam unopposed in all of the junior varsity events. Gabriella McHugh and Mikayla Magri each won two JV races in the meet. Magri took down the 200 free by more than 13 full seconds with a 2:14.49, then went 1:10.73 in the 100 breast – the latter of which outperformed varsity winner Marissa Recio's 1:10.98. McHugh snared wins in the two sprint freestyles: 27.00 in the 50, 59.27 in the 100.
The Troubies enter another week off from competition. They had no meet during the March 11-15 week, as attempts to schedule a Holy Splash dual with Christian Brothers never materialized. Then the school begins its two-week spring break on Monday, meaning the next meet is the April 6 Catholic Challenge at Santa Margarita Catholic.
The next week with the full St. Francis Gold squad is the April 10 Senior Day home dual against Davis.
