SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Erica Jaffe dominated the 100-yard backstroke with a winning time of 57.75 seconds while helping the 200 medley relay pick off a victory by less than a third of a second, but St. Francis fell short against league and section rival Davis in the final Delta League swim meet of the season at Jesuit High Wednesday.

The meet also served as a Senior Day tribute to six 2024 graduates: Ashlyn Brock, Ella Ching, Makenna Frederiksen, Megan Gawlick, Grace Mering and Lydia Vlahos. The six Troubadours joined a throng of seniors from the most Marauders during a mid-meet ceremony.

Jaffe's victory in the 100 back was more than a second and a half ahead of runner-up Mering, who touched home in 59.34. The 200 medley relay of Mering, Mia Hill, Jaffe and Lilla Kapinya combined for a 1:48.68, beating out the 1:48.99 of Davis' top foursome. St. Francis effectively entered the meet with a 12-6 lead, thanks to Monday's diving competition at ARC. Thus, the medley relay extended the scoring margin to 22-10.  
However, Davis won the next seven events, with 1-2 exacta finishes in the 50 free, 10 free, 500 free and 200 free relay. Jaffe nearly broke up that streak with a 53.31 in the 100 free, but Blue Devil Kiera Menna came out on top with her 52.98.

Meanwhile in the junior varsity events, sophomore Gabriella McHugh won both sprint freestyles at 26.96 and 58.99, respectively. Sophomore Makayla Magri notched a victory in the 100 breaststroke with her 1:10.87, while the Troubies' JV squad in the medley relay opened the meet with a win of its own. Milena Bonnici, Magri, Olivia Charles and McHugh formed that winning crew.

Wednesday's dual marked St. Francis' first Delta League dual since the March 20 meet with Cosumnes Oaks and Sheldon. A small group competed at the Catholic Challenge at Santa Margarita during the school's two-week spring break, but besides that event, the Troubies had not engaged in a full-program meet in three weeks.

SF returns to action in the Delta League championships on April 18 and 19. The meet is held at the Elk Grove Aquatics Center, which will also host the Sac-Joaquin Section championships on May 1 and 3.
