Garcia's bomb leads Troubie sticks at Franklin

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Senior third baseman Alex Garcia, sophomore catcher Jaeya Leavitt and the outfield trio of Kylee Garrett, Alexis McFarland and Claire Krotine each finished 3-for-4 at the plate as St. Francis totaled 18 hits –including four for extra bases – in a 10-3 rout over Franklin in Delta League softball action Friday.

The Troubadours improve to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in league play, with the latter mark moving them into a tie atop the Delta League standings. Sheldon, which entered the day as the last remaining undefeated team, fell to Elk Grove to also move to 4-1.

Garcia also led St. Francis with four runs batted in, three of which came on her opposite-field home run with two outs in the fourth. The blast marks the first of the year and the fifth in the varsity career of the Utah State commit, while the four RBI represents a new personal best.

Garrett and Leavitt tripled in the first and second innings, respectively, with Garrett putting up the first Troubie run on a Garcia infield hit. Sophomore second baseman Isabella Barge notched an RBI double in the fifth for the fourth extra-bag hit by SF.

Overall, the Troubies put up three runs in the third, four in the fourth and two more in the fifth in support of freshman reliever Kinsley Imm, who took over the circle facing a 3-1 deficit. Imm scattered five hits with no walks and two strikeouts in five scoreless innings. Her closest scare came in the fifth, with Emily Azemar doubling and Leah Pham following with a single to put two runners in scoring position. Imm escaped the jam when Krotine ran down a foul fly off the bat of junior third baseman Ashley Fields.

Azemar had four hits and a double for the Wildcats, but the remainder of the lineup combined for 4-for-25 at the plate.

Senior shortstop Francesca Guerrera and pinch hitter Ariella Alcantar had the remaining hits for St. Francis, both in the seventh. Alcantar, normally the starting shortstop for the junior varsity squad, joined the varsity roster for the day, given the JV game's earlier cancellation.

The Troubies originally had a Saturday matinee with Pioneer on the slate, but that contest was canceled on Friday morning in anticipation of inclement. Instead, the varsity team will host Capital Christian on Monday, with both teams back in league play on Wednesday at home against Sheldon.
