Shaff to Leave St. Francis to Return to Arizona for Position at Notre Dame Prep

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – St. Francis Assistant AD/SID Steve Shaff has been named the Assistant Athletic Director and Sport Information Director at Notre Dame Prep in Scottsdale, Ariz. He leaves St. Francis after seven years after joining the school in July 2013 from Northern Arizona University.

"For anyone associated with St. Francis over the past seven years, it will be hard to imagine Troubadour Athletics without Steve Shaff," said Athletic Director Mark McGreevy.  "His dedication to celebrating our teams and athletes has been so extraordinary that anyone could see that his work represented so much more than a job, it was his love made visible.  Beyond the countless interviews, feature stories, social media posts, photos, etc., he took time to get to know his subjects and contributed to their growth as students and people by volunteering on retreats and service trips.  His endless energy was dedicated to holding up our Troubies, telling their inspiring stories, and sending the message far and wide that they are truly special and worthy of recognition."

Shaff's last day at St. Francis will be on July 13. Please join us via Zoom on Tuesday, July 14 at 1p.m. as we celebrate Steve and wish him all the best as he departs SFHS for the next chapter in his career and life: A national search for the next Assistant AD/Sports Information will begin immediately.

"We're happy that he will be reunited with family in Arizona and he has certainly earned this great opportunity at Notre Dame Prep," said McGreevy.  "That being said, he will be truly missed on our campus and along our sidelines.  I know I can speak on behalf of the Troubie faithful that we're grateful for his years of service as Assistant AD, but more importantly we're grateful to have had the opportunity to get to know such a special person and count him as a friend."

Shaff was responsible for all communications and social media efforts for the 12-sport, 27 team Troubadour athletics department, producing, writing and designing all sport posters, game programs, social media and website game and feature content. He also served as the sport supervisor for the St. Francis basketball and cross country and track and field programs and assisted McGreevy and Assistant AD/Sports Medicine Kelly Ketcham in the daily operations of the department.

He designed and maintained the St. Francis athletics website, GoTroubies.com, since its launch in October 2018 in partnership with Presto Sports. During his tenure, the Troubies had 166 student-athletes sign to compete at collegiate programs. He also launched the successful St. Francis athletics Instagram and TikTok social media accounts while spearheading the growth and reach of the school's other social media pages. Last year, he coordinated the creation of the St. Francis Athletics Hall of Fame and the induction of the first class.

"Returning to my home state and being near family and friends has been a long term goal but I am saddened because the last seven years have been the highlight of my career working for the Troubies," said Shaff. "I never felt more loved and appreciated than at SF and enjoyed every day as the No. 1 fan and supporter of the Troubadours. I have made so many great friends in my SF Athletics colleagues and coaches, SF parents and school community. Thank you for all the great #TroubieTakeover memories."

A Phoenix, Ariz., native, Shaff graduated from Tucson's Salpointe Catholic High School in 1988 and the University of Arizona with a degree in business and public administration in 1992. Prior to NAU, he had previously worked at the University of Florida and with the San Antonio Spurs.
