Barger and Edwards Named Booster Club Scholar-Athlete Award Winners

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Seniors Grace Barger (Soccer, Lacrosse) and Alexa Edwards (Volleyball) were named the 2020 recipients of the Booster Club Scholar-Athlete Award at the Annual Awards ceremony celebrated via special video announcement. It was one of seven awards sponsored by the Booster Club highlighting Troubadour student-athletes.

The Booster Club Scholar-Athlete award is given to the senior scholar-athlete that exemplifies the Spirit of SF through exceptional achievement in both the classroom and athletics.

Isabella Fauria (Cross Country, Track & Field) and Alyssa Jacobsen (Water Polo) were the recipients of the Leadership Award. It is given to the senior who exemplifies the Spirit of SF through leadership in athletics.

Junior volleyball player Julia Zara was the Charles Chan Spirit of Service Award winner for her work with her non-profit Bags for the Brave.

Barger was an eight-time letter winner and captain in her two sports of soccer and lacrosse. She earned All-Delta League honors after leading the team to a Sac-Joaquin Section title, a CIF Nor Cal semifinal appearance and receiving the Cornerstone Award as the team MVP. She scored 22 career goals over 101 appearances. She had a 4.42 weighted GPA and will attend the University of Notre Dame in the fall.

Edwards was the Sac-Joaquin Section Female Scholar Athlete of the Year as the recipient of the Clarke Coover Scholarship Award. Edwards played volleyball for all four years and is one of the most decorated players in program history. She was the Delta League MVP three times, a MaxPreps Underclassman All-American, All-Region 9 team (players from California, Arizona and Nevada), first-team all-state and was the Sacramento Bee volleyball player of the year. She posted a 4.07 weighted GPA and will play volleyball at the University of the Pacific.

Fauria has had a decorated career as a Troubadour. She has helped the cross country team to four straight Delta League and Section titles. She was the 2019 Sac-Joaquin Section champion, the third individual in school history to accomplish the feat, and ran at three CIF State Cross Country Championships. She finished 10th overall as a freshman and a junior. On the track, she qualified for the CIF State meet in the 800 meters as a junior and finished fourth overall (2:10.49) after winning Section and Masters titles in both the 1600 and 800 meters last season. She earned All-State honors for her performance. She will run collegiately at the University of New Mexico.

Jacobsen has been a four-year letter winner for the program, scoring 49 goals and recording 39 assists during her career. She led the team to four Sac-Joaquin Section playoff appearances and three CIF NorCal playoff berths. She led the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee this year as the President. She will play water polo at George Washington University next year.

The Varsity Basketball team was received the Varsity Team GPA Championship with a 3.71 team grade point average, while the Freshman Volleyball team received the sub-varsity GPA title with a 3.65 grade point average.

St. Francis Athletics also honored their Excellence award winners for each sport.
