Distance Medley Relay Wins Dublin Distance Fiesta

DUBLIN, Calif. – The St. Francis distance medley relay won the prestigious Dublin Distance Carnival taking the second heat and top time in 12:22.61 to highlight a fun day that included 118 schools and over 2600 athletes.

The Troubadour foursome of senior Sophie DeBenedetti, juniors Isabell Fauria and Haley Silva and freshman Alexys Jones won the coveted Sombrero given to event winners and an automatic berth in the Arcadia Invitational. The time of 12:22.61 was the third best in school history.

Freshman Cate Joaquin was the top finisher in the 1600 meters, clocking a time of 5:03.31 to finish fourth. It was the fifth-best performance in school history in the event. Junior Haley Silva had the second-best time of the day for the team in 5:10.18 to finish 10th overall. Classmate Tatiana Cornejo had a personal-best 5:14.76 to finish 13th overall after winning her heat. Freshman Claire Silva won the 13th heat in 5:32.34, while junior Hanna Hekkanan took the 14th heat in 5:29.44.

In the 800 meters, junior Isabella Fauria had the top time in 2:16.81 to place seventh overall. Haley Silva. Senior Kathryn Kramer was 13th in 2:22.18 and Haley Silva was 14th in 2:22.53.

Freshman Cate Joaquin doubled in the 3200m, placing fifth in 11:02.62 to record the sixth-best performance in school history. Cornejo was 16th overall in 11:31.21 to move into the top 20 all-time.

There were 18 heats of the 1600m, 23 heats of the 800m and eight sections of the 3200.

The distance crew returns to action Friday at the Bronco Distance Carnival.
