Track Opens Season with Pitman Distance Wars

TURLOCK, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field team opened its 2019 season with strong performances by the distance group at the Pitman Distance Wars Friday night.

Freshman Cate Joaquin won the 1600 meters in 5:09.22 as seven SF athletes placed in the Top 10. Junior Haley Silva was fourth (5:16.73) and freshman Tatiana Cornejo was fifth (5:18.62). Cornejo doubled in the 3200, winning her first prep track event in 11:52.47 with junior Emma Hollenbach in second (12:01.93) and freshman Emily Castles in third (12:13.56)

Hollenbach was the top finisher in the 800 meters with a personal-best 2:28.97 to finish third as five Troubadours crossed in the Top 10. Senior Kathryn Kramer (2:29.15) tied for fourth to just edge freshman Alexys Jones (2:30.02) in her prep track debut.

St. Francis won the Distance Medley Relay (1200-400-800-1600) with a team Silva, senior Sophie DeBenedetti, Isabella Fauria and Joaquin in 12:38.54, the fourth-best mark in school history.
