Yadao defends Delta League 1-meter crown

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Sinclair Yadao successfully defended her 1-meter diving title with a winning total of 397.05 points, helping St. Francis score 63 total points toward the Delta League girls' swimming & diving championship during a three-league competition at Rio Americano High Wednesnday.

The meet featured divers from the Delta League, Capital Athletic League and Metro League.

The Troubadours' scoring came from Yadao's win, plus a third place from sophomore Paige Vicente (340.55). Senior Jaiden Jackson took fifth (268.00), while Maya Hamilton added seventh-place points (252.80) despite a balk on her final dive. SF freshmen Farah Fox (263.45) and Sam Powers (126.15) were the lone entrants in the Delta League's junior varsity competition.

Yadao also met the NISCA All-America standards for the second straight meet, although her league-champion score was more than 40 points behind the season-best total of 448.15 she posted at the Jesuit/St. Francis Invitational last Friday. She enjoyed her biggest scoring boost in the second round, counting 6.5-7.0-6.5 on her 403B (inward 15 somersault pike) for a 48-point push. Another 43.05 points came in the 10th round, counting awards of 6.5-7.0-7.0 on her 5231D, or a back 1.5 somersault with a half twist.

Davis claimed the remaining points in the varsity competition with second, fourth and seventh place. Violet Watts runnered-up behind Yadao with a 359.30 program. None of the Elk Grove members of the league entered a diver, giving the Troubies and the Blue Devils all of the scoring toward the championship.

The swimming portion of the Delta League meet takes place at American River College on Thursday and Friday.

The St. Francis divers return to action at the Sac-Joaquin Section championship, held at St. Mary's High on April 28. Yadao finished second at last year's SJS meet, earning one of the fourth berths to the CIF state championships.
