Troubies shine in preview of section championship venue

STOCKTON, Calif. – Junior Sinclair Yadao and sophomore Paige Vicente each finished in the top five to lead St. Francis among a field of 20 entrants in a high school 1-meter diving competition at St. Mary's Friday afternoon. The meet serves as a first look at Cortopassi Aquatics Center, which will host the Sac-Joaquin Section championship at the end of April.

Ripon's Brooklyn Goeckeritz, the first diver in her school's history, won the meet overall with a score of 252.85.

Yadao placed third in the meet with a 224.70-point total. The 2022 state meet qualifier finished particularly strong, earning awards of 6.5 and 7.5 in her penultimate dive of an inward 1 1/2 pike. Yadao then closed out with a 6.5 bingo on her final dive, or a 5231D (backwards 1 1/2 somersault with a half twist).

Vicente took fifth with a 174.55 score, with Maya Hamilton close behind with a 164.65, 11 points better than her previous career high, set against Sheldon in last year's dual finale. Jaiden Jackson followed in eighth (156.35), Farah Fox in 12th (131.45) and Sam Powers in 18th (81.95) – all of which are improvements from the scores set in the March 8 dual with Davis.

Vicente's score narrowly missed her six-dive best of 175.40, set in the 2022 meeting with Davis. Yadao, the defending Delta League champion, also enjoyed her Troubie PR of 261.95 at that meet almost exactly one year ago.

St. Francis diving resumes action back at its home Capital Divers pool with a Delta League dual meet with Elk Grove on Wednesday.
