Season, career highs set at Rio diving meet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Paige Vicente broke the 200-point plateau for the first time in her prep career, leading St. Francis in a prep diving competition at Rio Americano High School Wednesday afternoon. Vicente placed second with a six-dive total of 210.10, trailing only Christian Brothers' Phifey Bowers and her winning 231.95.

The meet originally appeared on the schedule as a dual with McClatchy to be held at Rio, which will host the Delta League diving championships in April. However, the event became an invitational-style meet with a dual program, and featured CB, Kennedy and the host Raiders.

Senior Jaiden Jackson placed fifth for the Troubies with her 169.45, Maya Hamilton was eighth at 156.70, Farah Fox scored a 143.15 for 11th place, while Sam Powers hit a career-best 111.75 to take 17th.

Vicente's previous high was the 193.85 set one week earlier in a home dual against Elk Grove. She scored a 6-bingo on her second dive, a 403C (inward 1 1/2 somersault tuck) for a 39.60 push in the second round, while receiving 7.0-7.0-7.5 for a 34.40 for her 201B (back pike) in the fourth round. Vicente finished her day with a 36.75-point uptick on her final dive, a 5231D (back 1 1/2 with a half twist).

Jackson, Fox and Powers also hit season highs in the meet. Jackson's program was highlighted by the 7-6-7 awards in her third dive, a 103C (forward 1 1/2 somersault tuck), good for 32.0 total points. Wednesday's total is her best since scoring 171.40 in the 2022 dual with Davis. Fox surpassed her previous best of 131.45, set at St. Mary's on March 17; while Powers has improved her total in every meet during her rookie season.

The Delta League diving championship will take place at Rio on Wednesday, April 19. Until then, the Troubies have two more meets: a dual with Christian Brothers on April 12 and the Jesuit/St. Francis Invitational that Friday. The invite meet will also feature the annual Booster-Q booster barbecue.
