Troubie varsity finishes unbeaten at Rocklin Invite

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Junior forward Mia Barsotti contributed to both goals of St. Francis varsity's 2-0 win over Del Campo in the finale of a rain-soaked Rocklin Invitational girls' prep soccer tournament Saturday evening. The victory competed an unbeaten tourney run for the Troubadours, who also blanked Bella Vista, 3-0, in the day's opener.

St. Francis also tied Ponderosa and beat Cordova in Friday's portion of the weekend, improving to 3-0-1 despite missing eight players to club obligations, including the team's top two returning scorers.

Barsotti had a goal and an assist in the nightcap with DC. She opened up the scoring on a corner kick in the ninth minute, sending a ball to sophomore Maggie Koerwitz, who finished the score with a successful header. Barsotti then scored a goal of her own in the second half, converting a penalty kick in the 41st.

Barsotti also had the most scoring opportunities in the morning contest with the Broncos, but came up empty on six shots. However, she did initiate the Troubies' second goal of the game, playing a ball to Jianna Reyes, who in turn centered it to Caitlin Hafenstein for a 1-v-1 against the BV keeper in the 29th minute.

Hafenstein's goal doubled the lead for SF, which managed its first goal in the 12th: Piper Sherburne sent a cross to Tacori Abril, who fired a shot that caromed off a Bella Vista defender into the net. The Troubies made it 3-0 in the 37th minute, as defender Elizabeth Barger lofted a ball to JV Gold call-up Estella Bacsafra.

The varsity win over Del Campo concluded a busy weekend for the entire Troubie soccer program, as JV Gold finished second in an all-varsity field at the Inderkum Invitational, while JV Red ended its weekend with a 3-3 tie against McClatchy in the JV bracket of the Inderkum tourney. The Troubie varsity and JV Gold squads return to action for a non-league home doubleheader against Vista Del Lago on Tuesday. The teams will depart from the usual scheduling format for a home twinbill, with the Gold playing first at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity at 6 p.m. Both games are at Cristo Rey High School.
