Troubies blank T-Wolves in road lacrosse sweep

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Senior Brynley Hodge and sophomore Keira Miles each scored a game-high four goals, sophomore Sara Ellis recorded her first career hat trick, while senior defender Brianna McGahan posted hustle stats of three draw controls, five ground balls and a whopping six total caused turnovers to lead St. Francis to an 18-0 shutout of Woodcreek in the varsity nightcap of a girls' prep lacrosse doubleheader Tuesday night.

The Troubadours improve to 3-2 for the season.

The varsity victory followed the St. Francis JV squad's first win of the year, with junior Reese Lieuwen and sophomores Reese Walker and Nevaeh Gavino each scoring two goals.

For varsity, junior Karly Okamoto added two goals with four assists, junior Zia Smith shot 2-for-2 with an assist, and sophomore Jade Abalateo posted her first varsity goal of her career. Finally, senior Jane Tattersall notched a goal, an assist and three draw controls, plus she indirectly led to a Woodcreek own goal.

Miles completed her hat trick in the first eight minutes of the game, helping SF establish an 8-0 lead. Hodge also had her hat trick before halftime, at which the Troubies held a 13-0 edge. Ellis, normally a D-wing for St. Francis, found the back of the net twice before the break then completed her hat trick in the 39th minute.

The shutout is the first by the Troubies since an 18-0 decision against Roseville one year ago, and the third against Woodcreek in the past four series meetings.

For the jayvees, Lizzie David and Akira Feguis each scored, Charley Viley notched her first Troubie assist, and Claire Gabri continued her strong goalie play to the tune of 10 saves. Overall, the T-Wolves' four goals is the lost opposing output of the year, while the eight SF goals nearly doubled the team's total offense in the previous four games.

Both St. Francis squads return to action on Saturday for an 11 a.m. doubleheader at Granite Bay. Nearly the entirety of the Troubies' preseason slate serves as a preview for the program's move to the Sierra Foothill League in 2025, with Folsom, Del Oro, and Granite Bay composing half of that league's existing roster.
