Yadao earns CIF state championship berth
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Sinclair Yadao totaled 423.80 points to place second on the varsity one-meter board, earning a berth to the CIF state meet and qualifying for NISCA All-America status, to highlight St. Francis action at the Sac-Joaquin Section diving championship at McClatchy High School Friday.

Yadao finished behind only Savanna Berry of Lodi, who won the meet with a 456.80 total. McClatchy's Salem Howes (409.40) and St. Mary's Riley Lee (389.00) snared the other two tickets to the meet.

Yadao opened strong, holding a 202.70 total after five dives, at which the field is pared down from its initial list of 33 competitors to a final 20. She never scored lower than a 6.0 from any judge, amassing scores of 46.80 on her second dive, an inward 1 1/2 somersault pike (403B); and 46.0 on her fourth, a back 1 1/2 somersault pike (203B).

However, Yadao struggled somewhat in the next wave, faltering to as little as 22.10 on her eight dive, a voluntary 301B with a relatively low degree of difficulty (1.7). Still, she finished strong with totals of 40.95, 47.25 and 45.10 down the stretch, with that 10th dive – a 5321D, or reverse somersault with a half twist – garnering 7.0 and 7.5 scores across.

The top 16 finishers from Friday's meet also contribute team points to the CIF-SJS swim championships, held on May 5 and 7. Yadao was the only scorer on the varsity side, but all four Troubie frosh-soph entrants provided points for their team. Paige Vicente led the way in fourth (304.40), Maya Hamilton placed eighth (270.10), Caroline Laborde Lagrave took 11th (256.30) and Vanya Dubey added 15th-place scoring (228.15).

Yadao was joined in the varsity competition by junior Jaiden Jackson and freshman Julia Labriola. Jackson was forced to exit the meet due to a prior commitment later in the day. Labriola, a new diver, is normally part of the frosh-soph group but took part in the varsity race due to St. Francis hitting its maximum in the frosh-soph division.

The CIF state championships for swimming and diving take place from May 12-14, with the diving portion running on that Thursday starting at 9:30 a.m. Tickets for the meet will be available via GoFan.
