Niazi, Tovar post season bests in win at Haggin Oaks

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Arden Han-Wei fired a 1-over-par 37 while freshman Chloe Jun and sophomore Momina Niazi each finished at 2-over 38, helping St. Francis prevail, 202-219, in a Sierra Foothill League girls' golf dual match against Whitney at Haggin Oaks Tuesday afternoon.

The Troubadours improve to 7-4 for the season.

Niazi's total stands as her best of the year and her lowest round since carding a 37 and 38 in two of her first three matches last season. Also boosting the team total was senior Neta Tovar, whose 43 marks a four-stroke improvement from her previous best; and sophomore Nydia Garcia, who added a 46 to the team total. Junior Gianna Seghesio turned in a 49 for her best nine-hole round in almost a month.

Han-Wei, Jun, Niazi and Tovar each posted a birdie-4 on the Arcade Creek's 309-yard 13th hole to highlight their rounds. Niazi was also the only player from either team to make par on the course's famous par-5 home hole, and the only Troubie to birdie the 15th – finishing a run of three consecutive one-putt holes in the process. Garcia followed Niazi's birdie-3 on 15 with one of her own on 16.

The Troubies' team score of 202 ranks as the third best of the year, but oddly, the best winning score of the 2024 season. Their bests of 191 and 192 came in dual losses to Granite Bay and Oak Ridge, respectively.

St. Francis returns to action on Thursday for a home dual against Del Oro. Tee time is 3:30 p.m., again at Haggin Oaks.
