St. Francis clips Rocklin in season golf opener

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Junior Arden Han-Wei carded a seven-over-par 42 while sophomore Nydia Garcia and freshman Chloe Jun each finished two strokes back, as St. Francis posted a 233-246 win over Rocklin in a Sierra Foothill League girls' dual golf match at Whitney Oaks Golf Club Tuesday afternoon.

The win also marks the first under new head coach Jenn Moore, an alumna of the Troubadours' program herself.

Sophomore Momina Niazi posted a 12-over 47 and junior Gianna Seghesio turned in a 56 to round out the scoring for the Troubadours, who are competing in their first season as SFL members. Neta Tovar notched a 61 for the day. The dual was contested on Whitney Oaks' front nine.

Rocklin had the overall individual winner with Keerit Basra's 4-over 39. In fact, Basra fired the only birdie by any of the 12 players when she stuck her approach on the 305-yard second less than a yard from the hole. However, no other Thunder player shot lower than a 45, allowing St. Francis' depth to claim the team victory.

The Troubies return to action in their home opener against Folsom. The match, originally scheduled for Thursday, has been postponed to Monday (Sept. 9) to avoid the Sacramento-area heat wave. The first tee time is 3:06 p.m. at Haggin Oaks Arcade Creek course.
