Golf Finishes Seventh at Section Masters

STOCKTON, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team finished seventh at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters on Monday. Seniors Nashla Aguero and Ceci Fletcher led the team with rounds of 81 and 82, respectively.

"All the girls played really well and I am proud of them throughout the whole season," said Head Coach Kelli Corlett. "It is a totally different ball game in a tournament setting. They have some takeaways and we will learn from there."

The Troubadours shot a 452 team score to place seventh in the Masters field. The top three teams advance to the CIF Northern California Regionals, including winner Granite Bay (372), Rocklin (409) and Vista del Lago (420).

Aguero shot 42-39 with two birdies on her round, including a birdie 2 on her final hole of the match.

"I felt really good about it and it was probably one of best rounds this season because the conditions were really hard," said Aguero. "Overall I felt I shot a really good score."

Fletcher carded a round of 82 that included six pars and two birdies, both coming on the back nine (her front nine) after starting on 10 in the shotgun.

St. Francis also recorded an 83 by Haanya Niazi, a 97 by Madeline Lee and a 99 by both senior Amanda Siy and freshman Julia Geer.

"It is bitter sweet," said Amanda Siy of her final match. "Today was kinda rough for me. I am really proud of how I hung in mentally. I did not have a good start but was able to finish off strong. I am grateful for the past few days playing and spending time with all the girls."

It was the final match for three three seniors.

"They are super special," said Corlett of her three seniors. "They are sweet young women. I am proud of them and I wish I had another three years with them for sure. As a first-year coach, I could not have walked into a better group of seniors."
