Golf Edges Pleasant Grove 224-226 in Dual Match

Golf Edges Pleasant Grove 224-226 in Dual Match

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – When junior Olivia Reed tapped in on the 18th hole, little did she know she might have just saved the match after a nice chip from below the green at the golf team edged Pleasant Grove 224-226 at Haggin Oaks Arcade Course.

"The biggest piece is the lesson that every shot counts," said Head Coach Kelli Corlett. "The girls need to take it one at a time whether it is at the beginning of the round or the end of the round."

The two-shot win extended the dual match win streak to 34 matches dating to the 2014 season.

"It was definitely stressful because it was really close," said Reed, who shot a 49 to finish ninth. "We got through it with a lot of perseverance and hard work. I had to pull myself together the last few holes."

Junior Haanya Niazi tied for medalist honors with Pleasant Grove's Sadia Sadiq as both posted four-over par rounds of 40. Senior Ceci Fletcher was fourth with a 43, while senior Nashla Aguero was fifth with a 45. Senior Amanda Siy carded a 47. Madeline Lee recorded a 51 to tie for 10th.

"I think a lot of it is our mental state," said senior Amanda Siy. "Today we learned there are tough holes all around like the 18th (at Arcade). We have to learn to keep playing and every shot matters."

St. Francis returns to the course on Wednesday against Elk Grove at Wildhawk Golf Course.
