St. Francis JV Gold finishes fourth at Folsom-Vista tourney

FOLSOM, Calif. – Senior Sydney Teoh scored a season-high 24 points while sophomore Tayli Paeu-Lindgren and junior Lexi London also broke double digits on offense, as St. Francis topped Woodcreek by a 67-49 final in the fifth-place game of the Folsom-Vista Winter Classic girls' prep basketball tournament at Folsom High Saturday.

The Troubadours improve to 5-3 for the season.

Paeu-Lindgren finished with 17 points and a career-high 23 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the year. London drained three three-pointers en route to 13 points, while grabbing eight boards. Sophomore Layla Hernandez posted nine rebounds to go with six points on 3-for-5 shooting.

Teoh's scoring output marked the most since she poured in a career-high 27 against Maria Carrillo at the West Coast Jamboree almost a year ago. It also serves as an encore to her 18-point effort against Lodi on Friday.

The fifth-place showing wrapped a 2-1 record at the Winter Classic, with St. Francis falling to Northern Section powerhouse Pleasant Valley on Thursday before rolling by the Flames on Day 2 of the tourney.

Varsity finished one place better than its JV Gold sisters, who lost to St. Mary's, 66-37, in the third-place game of the junior varsity half of the tourney. The younger Troubies again borrowed varsity sophomores Audrey Bashore and Natalia Zitelli, who scored 16 and 10 points, respectively. Freshman Catherine Gustafson snared 12 rebounds against the Rams.

JV Gold hung in with St. Mary's early on, trailing just 16-13 after the first period. However, Gigi Mendoza nailed two three-pointers as part of eight points in a 19-point Ram second, sinking the Troubies into a 35-21 halftime hole. Then SF went without a field goal in the third before rallying for 14 points in the fourth.

Both St. Francis squads continue a long December road stretch with a 5:30/7 p.m. doubleheader at Grant on Wednesday.
