Jenkins twins lead Troubies past Pioneer

WOODLAND, Calif. – Senior pitcher Hope Jenkins fired a perfect game while twin sister and center fielder Grace Jenkins homered and drove in two other runs to lead St. Francis to a six-inning, 10-0 win over Pioneer in the varsity half of a prep softball doubleheader Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile on the opposite diamond, Taylor Trafican and Rylee Couaette combined for a three-hit shutout while Natalie Vigil hit 4-for-4 in leading the Troubadour junior varsity squad to a 16-0 win over the Patriots.

The SFHS varsity improves to 6-1 for the year while the jayvee counterparts remain unbeaten at 6-0.

Hope Jenkins fanned 15 out of the 18 batters she faced, including the first nine. Only a comebacker, an infield pop-up and a fly out to Grace Jenkins involved the defense. Hope also went 2-for-4 at the plate, leading off the second with a double then scoring on a Haley Kim single for the Troubies' first run.

This is Jenkins' third no-hitter of the season in just six appearances, and her second consecutive. Moreover, in her previous outing, the UConn-bound righthy came just one walk away from a perfecto against Inderkum (Mar. 16).

Kim, catcher Isabelle Vela and second baseman Claire Krotine also had two hits apiece. Krotine, a freshman from Folsom who began the year with the JV squad, doubled in each of the third and sixth innings, sparking rallies in which SFHS pushed across a combined seven runs.

Like their older Troubies, the JV team enjoyed strong hitting up and down the lineup. Besides Vigil's output, Sorina Pometta hit 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored at the leadoff spot, and Hailey Strange tripled and walked twice. Head JV coach Kevin Riley also credited the team's bunt defense and "smart, heads-up plays" in support of Trafican and Coauette.

Trafican struck out five batters in the first two frames before handing the pitching duties to Coauette, who allowed just one hit and coaxed eight ground outs.

Both Troubie teams continue their stretch of three straight road games with a visit to Folsom on Tuesday. Game times are 4 p.m.
