St. Francis suffers first loss at Del Oro

LOOMIS, Calif. — Senior Grace Jenkins collected two hits while Haley Kim doubled, but St. Francis suffered its first setback of the 2022 season, falling by a 4-0 shutout at Del Oro in non-league prep varsity softball action Tuesday afternoon.

The Troubadours move to 4-1 for the season.

Jenkins reached in all three of her plate appearances, drawing a hit-by-pitch in the first, then rapping singles in the fourth and sixth innings. Kim doubled to lead off the fifth and was the only SFHS player to reach scoring position. However, the next three Troubies went down in order: two strikeouts and a ground out.

The Golden Eagles scored two runs in the first frame, thanks to a two-run shot by designated player Kendal Manley. Del Oro capitalized on a couple of St. Francis errors in the fifth to push across an unearned tally, then Caroline Grimes launched a two-out solo homer in the sixth.

The Troubadour junior varsity squad had its game canceled due to unplayable field conditions.

Both varsity and JV return to action on Wednesday for a home doubleheader against Inderkum. Both games start concurrently at 4 p.m.
