DUBLIN, Calif. – Freshman Miya Menza placed eighth in the fastest heat and 12th overall among 228 entrants of the 3,200-meter run, highlighting St. Francis in Friday's portion of the Dublin Distance Fiesta high school track & field meet at Dublin High.
Menza covered the eight laps in 11 minutes, 41.65 seconds. That also put her fourth among all Sac-Joaquin Section runners, behind Golden Valley's Fernanda Cortes (fourth) and Aubri Villa (eighth), and Roseville's Melissa Peterson (10th). It also made her the No. 3 freshman finisher in the event.
Junior Jordan Brace was the lone Troubadour to earn a prize: the top three finishers in a given section earns a T-shirt or bag. She placed second in Section 6 of the 3,200 at 12:21.25.
Senior Stella Davenport and junior MacKenzie Olmstead were the only SF runners who competed in both the 1,600 and 3,200. The Dublin Distance Fiesta features both Open and "Sombrero" versions of the 800, 1,600 and 3,200. The Open 3,200 took place on Friday only, while the remainder of the Open 1,600 runners will race on Saturday morning.
The faster Sombrero session begins at 4:37 p.m. on Saturday and runs late into the evening. Menza and fellow ninth grader Halle Welch qualified for each of the Sombrero 1,600 and 3,200, while Chloe Harrison and Sophia Kadel made the cut for the Sombrero 800.
