Herbelin's career high sparks JV Gold to 53-8 win
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Chidera Okoye, senior Brianna McGahan, junior Sydney Teoh and sophomore Colleen Medina each scored in double digits as St. Francis fell just four points shy of its school record in a 95-19 win over Elk Grove in the varsity nightcap of a Delta League girls basketball doubleheader Wednesday night.

The Troubadours improve to 9-10 overall and 4-1 in league play. More impressively, the 76-point margin of victory broke the previous school record of 68, set in a 93-25 win against Grant back on February 16, 2016. The 95 total points falls just four points shy of the SF benchmark of 99 from almost exactly seven years ago: 99-54 at Monterey Trail on January 20, 2017.

It also represents the sixth time the Troubies have scored 90 or more points in a game, per Steve Shaff's research from that 2016-17 season.

Okoye hit 10 of 16 from the field with seven rebounds en route to her team-leading 20 points. McGahan and Teoh each added 16 points and five steals, while Medina poured in a varsity-best 10 on 5-for-10 shooting. McGahan and Teoh also combined for 15-for-25 from the floor.

In fact, all 11 players contributed to the win as head coach Brittany Woodard distributed the playing time across her roster. Tayli Paeu-Lindgren shot 4-for-5 for eight points, Laila Mendoza turned in seven points and five assists, Gianna Seghesio chipped in six points and three steals in a rare start, Lexi London added five points, Karly Okamoto matched McGahan and Teoh with five steals, and Caitlin Lee knocked down a corner three in the fourth period. Junior post Aubrey O'Donnell was the only Troubie not to score, but she posted two rebounds, two steals, a blocked shot and an assist.

St. Francis did not allow a field goal during an almost 14-minute span in the first half, leading 20-6 through eight minutes and 57-9 at the break. Both teams agreed to a running clock for the entirety of the second half, yet the Troubies managed to amass another 26 in the third.

The St. Francis JV Gold squad also rolled past the Thundering Herd by a 53-8 final. Layla Hernandez scored 11 points, Lauren Herbelin had a season-best 10, and Nevaeh Gavino drained a pair of three-pointers en route to her eight points. Lizzie David, Annie Swanson, Natalia Zitelli and Sienna Dukes also buried shots from long range, as the Troubies held their guests scoreless for the entirety of the second half.

Both JV Gold and varsity return to action on Friday for a road doubleheader at Pleasant Grove. Games are 5:00 and 6:30 p.m. (previous schedules indicate start times of 5:30 and 7 p.m.).
