JV Gold falls to Folsom in CB tourney opener

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Gianna Seghesio drained two three-pointers en route to a team-high eight points, while Caitlyn Lee and Annie Swanson added seven points apiece, but St. Francis' Junior Varsity Gold squad fell by a 49-28 final in the first round of the La Salle JV Classic at Christian Brothers Thursday.

The Troubadours move to 3-5 for the season.

JV Gold operated with just seven active players in the tourney opener, with much of its roster unavailable due to either injury or academic priorities. As such, Seghesio and Lee played on loan from the SF varsity squad, while Lily Frei and Sienna Dukes earned the call from the all-frosh JV Red team.

The Troubies hung in by a one-point deficit in the first quarter, but surrendered 18 in the second to fall into a 25-12 halftime hole. The Bulldogs maintained their lead for the remainder in finishing up the victory.

Swanson also had eight rebounds, a blocked shot and a pair of steals in the contest. She and Lee also drained a three-pointer apiece. Freshman Audrey Bashore led the Troubies with 11 boards – seven on offense, four on defense. However, SF shot just 8-for-45 (.178) from inside the arc.

The Troubies will face either Lincoln of Stockton or Kennedy at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The La Salle Classic continues through Saturday, with Davis, Franklin, Weston Ranch and host CB occupying the opposite half of the eight-team bracket.
